Overview

Barchester Care Homes required a strategic partner to stabilise, standardise and optimise EV charging infrastructure across its national portfolio of care homes.

Across approximately 50 sites and more than 150 charge points, the EV charging infrastructure had become operationally inconsistent over time.

Chargers had been deployed through varying installation phases, differing hardware manufacturers and inconsistent commissioning standards, resulting in unreliable user experiences and limited operational visibility.

Following a competitive review process, Mango EV was appointed to deliver a nationwide programme to restore, standardise and future-proof the charging network for staff and visitor use.

The Problem

The existing infrastructure presented a range of technical and operational issues, including:

  • Multiple charge points that had never been fully commissioned
  • Faulty or partially operational units across several sites
  • Legacy “dumb” chargers lacking connectivity or remote management capability

Solution

Phase 1 – Nationwide Site Audit & Infrastructure Assessment

The programme commenced with a structured nationwide inspection initiative covering all 50 care home locations over a planned 3–4 month mobilisation period.

During this phase, our engineering teams will:

  • Assess charger condition, operational status and compliance

Following completion of the audit programme, works will commence across the portfolio to restore and standardise charging operations.

Operational chargers requiring corrective maintenance or preventative servicing will undergo full inspection and remediation to maximise uptime and extend asset lifespan.

Phase 3 – Centralised Software & Support Integration

To improve visibility and reduce site-level management burden, all compatible chargers across the estate will be integrated into a unified back-office management platform.

This software layer will provide:

  • Centralised monitoring
  • Live charger status visibility
  • Fault alerts and diagnostics
  • Usage reporting and analytics
  • Remote troubleshooting capability

In addition, all charge points will be supported through a dedicated 24/7 support service, ensuring rapid issue resolution while removing administrative pressure from individual care home teams.
